 Hola, thank you for your interest in my being-work. My name is Irene Trejo, alias Merma Suelo. I am a polyfaceted poet, researcher, performer and sound artist dancing and playing between layers to attend, stretch, break and transform the living relational patterns-dynamics within ourselves and our environments with the intention of creating a more loving, just, and less oppressive reality. My practice centres in storytelling, rawness and collective liberation; and is supported by life, body–territory and listening practices, divination, plants, politics and more. I am a very curious being who has been gifted with many lives in this body, yet is now humbly trying to focus and commit on the chosen for depth.

Atoyac Workshop series and Sound drift

Fluid Ecotonalism “Atoyac” was in collaboration with the art space Matamoros 404 , as well as with the musician Mauricio Silva Orendain.

Atoyac means "running water" in Nahuatl. The river has faced contamination for more than 30 years. Beyond the microbial, there is still life kilometers before reaching the urban zone and kilometers downstream when it joins other rivers. However, when it crosses the city of Oaxaca it is a residual river, a sewage river.
The staticity heard in the Atoyac intensifies what is visible about its current state. This body's movement is assimilated extremely heavy due to the accumulation of pollution it sustains. Its frequencies are very high and with minimal amplitude.
During the Fluid Ecotonalism workshop, the body became a bridge to listen to what lives inside the river. Through premises that play with different disciplines and ecosomatics, a collective score was created and then translated into a sound composition.
